So many things are a matter of perspective. For example we were in Hua Hin Thailand a few days ago. Sitting on the beach we were watching some kiteboarders. There must have been about 25 of them having the time of their lives and you could definatly see the difference in skill levels. For those watching their thoughts and reactions were different. From my perspective I thought to myself, wow that looks like fun. I would love to try that, as I struggled to stand (back problems) and give my body a moment to get use to the idea of moving before walking all the way over to the bar for another beer. I began to talk my way out of trying this new activity. My perspective being that I am getting older and more fragile. Ah that is a young person’s activity. Yet there is a part of me that is young enough to say hey I can rock that kiteboard and own it like a boss. While another part of me is unable to muster a cohesive sentance as it laughs uncontrollably “you do that?”. As the voices in my head debate the issue I am in beach mode and not in any danger of strenuous activity today. Throughout the day I watch and the debate continues until it is time to leave. Seeing two gray haired gentlemen packing up their kiteboarding equipment made the voices stop their debate for just a moment. If they can do it why can’t we. Oh yeah back surgery but is that the real reason. Or is my perspective that I simply too old and decrepid to try. Another beer and the debate continues.
